Aim: to write a warning story

The Stone Trolls

On the eastern coast of Iceland. in a dark tunnel, there was once a city of trolls. They were big, strong and horrible beasts who were feared by people. All trolls knew if they ever got caught by a glimmer of sun, they would slowly transform into stone. So every week, one troll would go and hunt.

One windy night, two suspicious trolls called Alex and Anna flopped down on a tree branch. Above them they saw puffy clouds. Below them they saw long grass.

Suddenly, Alex and Anna roared they both said “look two bikers are peddling at the very edge of a broken cliff!”

Carefully, they were peddling very slowly but they were not looking where they were going so the two trolls moved them somewhere safe and told them “It is not safe to bring your bike to this place!” Time passed, finally the bikers learnt there lesson.

A few moments later, the first glimmer of sunlight appeared the trolls were horrified their necks froze, their face were grey, their hearts stopped and the trolls turned to stone… forever!

Aim: to write a warning story

The Stone Trolls

On the northern eastern coast of Iceland, in an underground house there lived a band of trolls. They were huge creatures who were feared by everyone. All trolls knew that if they ever got caught in a beam of sunlight they would immediately be turned to stone.

During a full moon, two strange trolls called Alex and Anna rested on the cliff edge. Above them they saw fluffy, thick and black clouds. Below them they saw a muddy, long and narrow river.

Suddenly, Alex spotted two hikers riding a scooter. “Lets go and help them.” Said Alex.

Carefully, they walked slowly to the edge of the cliff. The two trolls told them it is not safe to play near the edge of the cliff. They tugged and tugged. Time passed. Finally, the hikers moved to safety.

A few moments later. a beam of sunlight shone. Horrified, their fingers froze, their necks, stiffened, their heart stopped. Both trolls instantly turned to stone forever.

Aim: to write a warning story

The Stone Trolls

On the Western Coast of Iceland, in an underground house, there was once a gathering of trolls. They were huge, mischievous creatures who were feared by everyone. All trolls knew that if they were ever caught by a glitch of sunlight, they would immediately turn into stone. So, every night, under the cover of darkness, they would venture out to hunt and fish.

One rainy night, two horrible trolls called Amroy and Aran flopped on top of a cold mountain. Above them they saw grey, dark clouds. Below them they saw a scary, deep and dark river.

Suddenly, Amroy spotted two hikers running on a wet edge on a cliff. ” We need to help them, let’s go.” Said Aran.

Carefully, they tiptoed to the edge of the cliff. The two trolls told them “please don’t play on the edge of the cliff, play somewhere else!” They talked and they talked. Time passed. Finally, the hikers moved somewhere else for safety.

At that moment, a shimmer of sunlight shone. Horrified, their neck stiffened, their fingers froze and their hearts stopped. Both trolls instantly turned to stone forever.

3D’s oscillating mechanisms

During D&T, year 3 have been learning about Levers and Linkages.

Unfortunately, the Minotaur had gone missing from King Minos’s Labyrinth, it was our job to create a new monster… We made an oscillating mechanism which had a lever and an output. Our output moved from side to side.

3J’s Oscillating Mechanism

This half term year 3 have been looking at Levers and Linkages in D&T. We made an oscillating mechanism which had a lever and an output. Our output moved from side to side. The output was a hybrid mythical creature inspired from the Egyptian myth Theseus and the Minotaur. We designed the output to help King Minos because he had lost the Minotaur from the labyrinth. We had lots of fun creating the mechanism even though it was a little bit tricky! We even got to design the background for the monster.

Professor McGinty visited year 3

Yesterday we got to meet the amazing and funny Professor McGinty. He is a time traveller and came to tell us all about Ancient Egypt. We learnt so much from him.

Professor McGinty allowed us to see and hold some real Egyptian artefacts, we were fascinated by most but terribly scared of the scarab beetles! We were even allowed to dress up as Egyptian kings and queens.. here are some photos from yesterday.
