Get Talking, Get Learning

Week Commencing 24.1.2011

Literacy – Next week we are starting our new topic of poetry.  We are going to be learning about shape poems.  Go on the Internet and have a look at http://www.bemboszoo.com/.  What do you think of it? What do you think a shape poem is? Can you find a shape poem and bring it in to share with us?

Phonics– Remember you need to reading everyday for 5 to 10 minutes.  Set your different activities to do.  Read the story. Answer the questions. Read and write out the red and green words. How many speed words can you read in 1 minute.?

Your blue reading journals need to be in school everyday.  We would like to listen to you read and write in them too.  Remember you should read everyday but get someone to listen to you and write in your book three times a week.  Well done to all those books we saw this week keep it up!

Numeracy – We love our toy shops in Year 3! We love them that much that we are having them for another week! It’s time to keep learning at home.  Show how we added the two prices in Numeracy today using the expanded method.  This weekend set up your own shop and use real money!  Ask someone to pay and you give them the change.

We really need your old clothes to make our class rag rug.  Without your old clothes we won’t be able to make one!  Talk to your families this weekend and bring something in on Monday!

This weekend think about your learning.  What are you good at in school and why? How do you improve your reading, writing and Numeracy?  What do you do when you are stuck? Think about this and talk to someone this weekend.

Please make sure you have a school bag in school everyday. In the bag should be your spelling log, blue reading diary, reading book and any homework you want to share with us.  You all need your P.E kits in on Monday too.

As we are currently learning about different fabrics, we decided to open clothing and material shops. As you can see from our pictures, we have been really busy transforming our classrooms and making lots of things to use in the shop. We have even started to design and sew our own outfits to sell.

A big thank you to all the families who have donated clothes and material, we think it has made our shops look brilliant.

Watch this space for more Fantastic Fabrics and Marvellous Materials shop work! Please let us know what you think of our hard work so far.

Key Stage Two- The Slam

This week the whole of Key Stage Two got to work with Matt Windle. Matt is a very talented rapping poet.

On Friday one group from each class represented their class in the Slam. They had been chosen for their performance they had given in their workshop with Matt.

Overall the quality of the poetry was  first class and some very accomplished performances were given. It was a real  privilege to be part of the audience.

The competitors  will each receive a certificate and the winners will get a trophy to display proudly in their classroom.
