Guided Reading by Cashyila and Tetiana

The pictures were taking by Nabeel during today’s Guided Reading.

We do guided reading everyday from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. During the lesson we work in small groups of five or 6 children. In guided reading we do a different task everyday.  On two of the sessions we work with Miss Dinsdale and Miss Thomas. The day after we read with Miss Dinsdale we do a follow-up activity about the book we are reading.  On the other days we go into the role play or we are allowed to blog. We have a museum as our role play area. In additional to role play or blogging we do paired reading. Paired reading is when we share a book between the two of us.

What is your favourite guided reading activity?

Junior Hall Display Boards

This week we have been working on our display boards for the Junior hall. We have been exploring stories from another countries. In 3D we  had circle time and discovered that Shasiar is from Germany so we decided to retell the story of  ‘The Piped Piper’. 3s decided to retell the  story of ‘Spread you wings and Fly’. This is a traditional Chinese story.

Get Talking, Get Learning

Literacy – Your reports are amazing and since they are so fantastic we are going to make a dinosaur book.  On Monday we are going to be publishing so make sure you bring your best handwriting with you! Next week we are going to be learning about story settings.   Think about where your favourite stories are set. Is it a school, farm,  house, park? Draw and describe your favourite story setting.

In phonics- Challenge yourself to learn and write all your green words from this week.  Get someone to test you!

Numeracy – I think we are number line wizards now!  Well done to you all and keep practising your adding and subtracting.   Next week we are moving on to Time.

Can you tell the time? This weekend have a look at a clock .  What do the hands do? Think about what time you go to bed and get up. What happens during the day and at what time?

We had a great week and got very excited with our stories form another country. In fact, we now need to do all our brilliant dinosaur art work next week! Learn about the dinosaur you have picked.  Can you find words to describe his skin and how it would feel?  Bring in some pictures to share on Monday.

Next Thursday is our trip to The Public.  Remember you need to wear your school uniform and bring in a packed lunch.  A healthy snack would be great as we will have a very busy day.  Over the weekend practice your facial expressions to show emotions.  How does your body shape change when you feel scared and happy?   You will need your best acting poses for Thursday!

Reading – This weekend talk about the books and authors you like.  Talk about why you like them.  Remember to read everyday and bring in your book to change.

Talk Homework

Look at the picutre.

Imagine you wake up in a strange land. Suddenly you see a familiar shape. You freeze in shock as you stand before a terrifying beast. A Tyrannosaurus Rex! You turn and flee in terror.

How has this happened?

How will you get home?

How do you feel?

Tomorrow you will be writing a story. You must imagine that you find yourself in the time of the dinosaurs.

We want to know your feelings and how you survive.

Come prepared with exciting words and an amazing ending!

Act out your story at home tonight.
