Do you remember when Blind Dave and his guide dog coming to Bearwood Primary?
The answer to that question is mostly likely yes. We all sat in the assembly hall and listened to Dave with our jaws on the floor as he told us about completing his ultimate endurance challenge of 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 different continents. We all thought what a truly amazing achievement! He launched our ‘Opening up a World of Opportunities’ week and told us all that anything is achievable as long as we work hard and believe.
At the moment Dave is undertaking an epic challenge of running and cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End almost 1000miles in 10 days to raise money for Macmillan cancer. While we enjoy the leisurely days of the summer holidays, he runs a 26.2 marathon and then cycles to his next destination – an average of 75 to 80 miles each day. I’m sure that you will all agree this is a superhuman effort by Dave and his marvellous team. To find out more about his challenge log on at http://www.blinddaveheeley.co.uk/top2toe/
Today was Day 6 of his ambitious challenge and he was back in his home town of West Bromwich. How could he not take the opportunity to visit his beloved Hawthorns home of West Bromwich Albion FC! I was astounded by Dave’s wonderful sense of humor despite the pain he must be feeling. It was a privilege to see him!
Blind Dave has set himself a target and I don’t doubt that he will achieve it! What challenge could you set yourself in the next academic year?
