Hello, I’m David and I’m talking about who is in with a chance of becoming F1 2012 world champion. There are six world champions on the grid this year, with the coming of Kimi Raikkonen to Lotus; he was the world champion in 2007, after beating Lewis Hamilton. So fair Kimi has had a very good winter testing after being the fastest in two out of twelve days.
I think that he hasn’t got the best car to win it, but could have a good year with the team.
Next I’ m talking about Mark Webber , he had a bad year last year, he got walked over by the number 1 driver in the team. He has been in F1 for about 11 or 12 years now and only had his first win in 2009. At the German Grand Prix he says that he’s raring to get the season started in Australia on march the 16th, but I’m not sure if he’ s got it in him anymore.
Next up Sebastian Vettel, he’s only 24, but has two world championships under his belt. He has had a very bad testing, with crashes into the wall, damaged his front wing, gearbox failure and slow lap times on the track out of 12 cars. His team is supposed to be the best in F1, but this week out of 20 cars his team mate is down in 13th, while he is in 20thplace, but the teams have few problems with the gearbox and “kers”. Next are the two McLaren drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Lewis, last year had the worst year in F1, the car has been faster than the Red Bull, but Red Bull might have a trick ot two up their sleeve!
Wow David! A super blog post, you clearly know your stuff about F1. I too am an F1 fan and also think that Red Bull may have something up their sleeve…guess we will find out in the first race. Who do you want to become champion this year? What about the teams? Who will win this year? Testing has been very interesting and it seems Red Bull may face some tough competition. I think it would be fantastic to see someone else have a turn at being the champion this year as it may make the season more interesting. Vettel is a superb driver but if his ‘kers’ isn’t working will he do it? I can’t wait to read your next blog post on F1 especially with the season starting soon.

Hi David. Great pre-season blog post, hard to believe you’re only 9. We’re excited about the season opener in Melbourne and I bet you are too. What a fabulous post. I can’t wait for the F1 season to start. Your post is very informative as I didn’t realise Vettel had had such a bad winter season testing. This will definitely be an interesting season. I think that Mclaren and Ferrari will be looking to up their game this season in order to compete with the Red Bull dominance of last season. Can’t wait to see you analysis of the first race.

Great summary of the drivers who should be fighting for the world championship! Do you think Red Bull will win it easily this year? Personally, I’d like to see McLaren beating them more often this year, but I think Red Bull have a surprise up their sleeve as well. My favourite driver is Lewis Hamilton, who’s yours? Keep up the good work with your blog, if you work hard you can achieve anything!

Hi James, personally i think mclaren have got the upper hand this year red bull are the team to loose the most without the blown diffuser and that bit about saying red bull got a trick up their sleeve was my big brother telling me to write that so not lissing to him again 🙂

Hi Ian i agree im geting sick watching vettel win all the time but its closser this season. 😉
Don’t forget, for the past 2 years Webber has been recovering from broken bones, but he isn’t this year – that will make a difference. Don’t read too much into the times in testing, as we never know fuel loads or whether folks are trying for fast laps. I was lucky enough to get to the last test, and was at the press conference where Ferrari’s tech director Pat Fry ruled out podiums, so they think they have not done enough. Beyond that, we’ll find out in under 2 weeks!
What do you think of the rest of the grid?
I just dont think hes got it in him anymore, in 2009 he didnt have any broken bones but still got beaten by rookie team mate vettel 🙂

Wow! Love this post David. It’s always difficult to read much into pre-season testing as teams usually keep things to themselves. But I agree with you about Mark Webber – he is nowhere near the level of Sebastian Vettel, although a team needs a decent number two driver to win the Constructor’s Championship.

Hi Mr Pitts i think that webber has not got it in him anymore, it took him 7 year till he won his first race, lewis hamilton won his first race in the first season into 6 races of the season 🙂

I’d like to congratulate you on a great blog, I was hoping to go to Valencia this year to see the grand prix. At the minute it may not be going ahead because Spain is having to save lots of money and because they have to pay £25 million to host the race the people of Spain are not happy that the government are paying the money. I wonder whether you might want to write a blog about whether they should pay to have the race in Valencia or whether they should give the money to the schools in Valencia?
Hi Craig, I think that spain should not pay for the valencia race because it called the European grand prix not the spainsh grand prix so all the races in Europe should pay for it, nice spacking to you 🙂

Great pre season blog. F1 is a fascinating sport and it’s rare for one team/driver to dominate quite as much as the very talented Sebastian Vettel did last year. I’d like to see the wins spread around a bit this season, and agree with you that Kimi Raikkonen could be a bit of a wild card and throw the form book up in the air. My personal favourite is Jenson Button who endured some very painful years in less than good cars. I was pleased that his talent and hard work were rewarded when he won the WDC in 2009 and have continued to reward him with his drive at my favourite team, McLaren. Enjoy the season – I am very excited that the first race is just around the corner. I seem an F1 journalist in the making, keep writing. I look forward to reading your next post. Debra

I like your blog post! It sounds like you are very excited about the new season… so am I!
Vettel did very well last year because he was very good at coming first in the qualifying sessions and then starting the race from pole position. I think the other drivers will need to try and beat the times he sets in qualifying sessions if they want to finish in front of him in the race. Hopefully, with so many world champions racing, we will have lots of close races
Hi Steve I think that it wont really mater were you qualifying at the first race because they have change the the tyre, so if you look after them you will get rewarded 🙂

Personally I’m hoping that Ferrari do better this year and that Schumacher continues to improve, I’m also VERY excited about the return of Kimi Raikkonen and I’m hoping he doesn’t disappoint!!

Thanks for providing a detailed account of the 2012 Formula One World Championship’s upcoming season’s main drivers. Being an Aussie, I still hold out hope for Mark Webber but, at 35, he is now amongst the older drivers. Maybe that will make him more determined to show what he can do. His first race will be in Australia so he may have a home town advantage.
With only about a week to the Australian race, I suppose your getting ready for another great season. 🙂

Hi Ian im not sure really, last year red bull had a faster car but, they dont have a blown diffuser this year so they are slower and coming back toward mclaren 🙂
