Bradley`s diary by Fozia

What a day! Mrs Ebbel really did my head in. Today this new kid Jeff Fishkin arrived in our class. Mrs Ebbel told us that he has come from Washington D.C. He told us that he had never been to the White House. Mrs Ebbbel looked around for an empty desk and unfortunately there was only one desk available. Beside me. The class started shouting `not next to Bradley Chalkers` I even admitted that nobody likes sitting next to me. I didn`t care. I was better off alone. I grabbed a pencil and began scribbling. I broke 10 pencils. When the bell rang for recess, I heard somebody shouting `wait up Bradley`.

I was startled. I turned around. It was Jeff, the new kid. He came up beside me and spoke calmly. He said that he does not mind sitting beside me. I was confused. Nobody has ever said that to me. I had never had that experience. Then I said the cruelest thing. I said that `Give me a dollar or I`ll spit on you`.Confused, he gave me the dollar and ran away.

I felt really bad. I was moody for the whole time. At home time, I ran all the way home. Mum asked why I came home early. I lied and said `I ran all the way home with my friends.`I had to lie. My Mum does not know about Mrs Ebbel and the whole class always teasing me. I ran upstairs to my bedroom, slammed the doorand started searching for my animal friends. I was mainly looking for Ronnie and her best friend, Bartholmew. Apparently they had been making out (kissing!) So I fetched them and began talking to them.

Year 5 Products by Eeshah

Over the last couple of weeks year 5 have been making products to raise money for the Rock of Joy school in Uganda. It was a great success for all the children who made and bought our items. There were a variety of different things to buy and choose from such as: badges, sock puppets, jewellery, felt wallets and even some origami!

We have been supporting the Rock of Joy school because our topic is ‘It’s not fair!’ and it is all about Fair Trade. We had some special visitors from the Rock of Joy.They brought with them an instrument and some other things from Uganda. They also brought a huge bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate with them. I got a huge chunk! It is my favourite chocolate anyway. They showed us a lot of pictures of the Rock of Joy.

Did you know that just £2 could feed a child for a month? Also just £25 could pay for a house mother. We also made adverts on IMovie containing all these facts.

The selling was a great success! There was a big crowd around all the stalls! We will be selling again today. We hope to raise lots of money for the Rock of Joy school!

Eeshah’s Review

Book title:   There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom’

                                       Author:         Louis Sachar

There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom is not a hard book to read-I mean it-because there are tears, anger but, fortunately, there is also humour. This book is a must have so be sure to ask your local library for it. Personally, I can see elements of myself in the main character, Bradley Chalkers. You might be able to as well. This book is the number one book for me in 2013!

There’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom is a heart-warming, laugh-out-loud read with lots of unexpected twists and turns by award- winning author, who writes for all ages, Louis Sachar.  In this book, a young boy(Bradley Chalkers),who sits last seat, last row in his classroom at Red Hill School, transforms from a lonely, uneducated soul to a popular, talented member of his school basketball team with the help of his counsellor Carla(aka Miss Davis) and Friend or Foe, Jeff Fishkin. The story might make you want to cry so get those tissues ready!

Louis Sachar’s style of writing is exaggerated in this book and I would recommend this book to children who are seven or older. This book is full of breathtaking features of real life so sit comfy and get ready to read!
