Get Talking, Get Learning!

W/c 22.11.10

Literacy – We will be continuing with work on play scripts next week. We have now planned our new character who will receive an extra golden ticket and get a chance to visit the factory.

Describe your character to somebody at home. What are they like? You now need to decide how they will manage to win a golden ticket and what will happen when they enter the factory? How will they meet their end?

You will be writing your own script for this next week. Look at the blog to see some clips from the film to inspire you.

Numeracy – Please practice your times tables. We have noticed that many children do not know these in Year 4.

We have moved time to next week as children needed more work on multiplication. Please practise reading the time at home. Get your parents to remind you how we tell the time so that you are prepared on Monday. Can you read the time to: O’clock Quarter to and past 5 minute intervals (e.g. 10:15, 12;35)

Can you read an analogue clock and a digital display?

Practice looking at a time table and calculate time intervals. E.g. Eastenders starts at 8pm and finished at 8:30. How long is it on for?

Topic – Next week we will be learning all about how to use the green screen technology. This is extremely exciting! When you are watching television see if you can spot any green screen technology.

Children In Need

Don’t forget to bring a small amount of money with you for the fundraising events tomorrow.

We will be going on a Pudsey Bear Hunt around school. You must record the red letters and unscramble them to to make a well know phrase. In order to take part you must bring 50p to go towards Children in Need.
Also bring some small change so that we can make a Pudsey floor mural out of coins.

Blogging

Bearwood Bank

[slideshow]This week we have all been employed in the Bearwood Bank. It has been tough work and we have met some demanding customers!! We had to be smart and wear ties whilst we were working.

Lots of customers have come into the bank wanting to know the balance of their account. We have had to work out the balance using informal methods for multiplication or the grid method.
For example, Mr Jones wanted to know how much money he would have in his account after paying in £45 each week for 16 weeks.

Some experienced bank staff have prepared a staff training video for others to help them with their work. It will be on the blog shortly.

We have now received some important emails from customers. The manager says we have to answer the customers problems tomorrow.

Here are a selection of the emails. What calaculation will you need to use to help each customer? (Remember QUACK!)

1)
Dear Bearwood Bank,

I have got a new job as a chocolate taster at The Wonka Factory. I am going to be paid £17 per hour. How much will I receive each day if I work for 9 hours?

Yours Sincerely, Miss G Reedy

2) Dear Bearwood Bank,

I have a bank account that has a balance of £678. I am going to spend £225 on a new laptop. How much will I have left?

Yours Sincerely, Mrs Pattni

3) Dear Bearwood Bank,

Last week I had £345 in my account. I have paid in a cheque for £258 which I received for my birthday. What is the new total?

Yours Sincerely, Mr Butty
