Switched On

‘Switched On’ is Year 4’s new topic! ‘Switched On’ is based on electiricty and anything to do with it.

On Friday 2nd November, Year 4, went on a trip to the ThinkTank musem in Birmingham. They learnt more about electirity and how things work. We watched a show called ‘Electrifiying Sience’ where we watched a lady talk and show things about electricity. I learnt that there are diffrent kinds of electricity and they are  current electricity and static electricity. Current electricity is electricity in our homes and static electricity is electricity in our bodies.

Next, we went to a place called, ‘The Past’ where we looked at  steam engines and industrial machinery  from the  past.

Then, we went to a place called, ‘ The Street ‘ where we learnt about day to day life on the streets. There was a zebra crossing and some traffic lights there to show that the place was about streets. I learnt how things were recycled and what happens when things get recycled.

After, we went to a place called ” All about me ‘ where we learnt about our body. We did an exersise dance and we had to follow what the little man on the screen was doing. Some children were soon tired; others still had lots of energy.

Finally, we went to a place called ‘ The Future ‘ where we learnt about robots and things in the future. There was a giant robot and you had to press buttons to make it work.

I had a fabulous time there and I learnt lots of new things.

My trip to Blackpool Pleasure beach

Dear diary,

I went toBlackpool pleasure beach on sunday 2nd September it took us two hours to get there. When we got there we got our wristbands so we can go to any ride in the theme park. The grown ups went on the biggest rollercoaster. It was called Pepsi. Me and my sister went on a fun caracell when the caracell ended we went to nickelodeon land. In Nickelodeon land we went on a train that takes you around the park. After that I went on Nickelodeon streak which was very exciting, fun, and fast. Next my sister had a ride and we had lunch  just before lunch my sister got lost… but eventually we found her. She was playing in the cars then we had lunch then we went to the beach and made sandcastles after the sandcastles I walked in the water and saw seagulls. The water felt very nice, wavy and made us feel relaxed but first when we went to the beach the tied was in . Then for our next ride we went on the rocket ride where we went round and round at first we went really slow sooner we started to pick up the speed then the ride ended. Next  we went on canultran  which was  a great, fantastic, ride. While I went on that ride my sister had a photo touching the water fountain and played some games at the south pier. After that my family went on revolution and bobsleigh while they went on them two rides, I went on fairy and prince taxi that goes up and down. Then I went on another train that shows up the park that we never saw before and then my family came back and I went on Big Dipper and that was the best I had on that day. Then after my family went on infusion the second scariest ride there. Then I went on canultran again for the last ride. Finally I went out of the theme park and I saw the Blackpool lights and tram boat decorated going past.

Water Cycle, by Eloise

The Water Cycle

Is the water we have now the same as millions of years ago?  The Earth is a huge water cycling machine that gets the water clean and back on land, so it is true.  It travels through   sea, lakes, rivers and puddles. Did you know that the Earth is made of two – thirds of water! Why does this happen?

Stage 1- Evaporation

On a warm, sunny day, the water in the ocean and lakes evaporates into the atmosphere, which is caused by the sun heating the water. It turns into an invisable gas called water vapour. This process is called evaporation.

Stage 2- Condensation

The water vapour gets cold and condenses to make water droplets, if it gets so cold it will turn into ice crystals.  The cold air makes the vapour form a cloud as a result the clouds turn grey. This process is called condensation.

Stage 3- Precipitation

When the clouds get too heavy it starts to rain because the water droplets are too heavy, so the cloud needs to let them go. If it freezes in the air it will turn into hail or it could freeze in the cloud and turn into snow. This process is called precipitation.

This process is happening all the time, so we could be drinking water dinosaurs bathed in!

Water Cycle

The Water Cycle

Did you know that the dinosaurs drank the same water as us?

Did you know that animals drink water from lakes and streams to stay alive? This is why the water cycle is important.

Evaporation

The energy from the sun evaporates the water into a cloud because it is heated. This is called water vapour.

Condensation

The water condenses and turns into a gas which forms a cloud in the sky. This is because the tiny water droplets get too cold in the sky.

Precipitation

Precipitation is any thing that falls from the sky like rain, snow and hail. That is why it is called precipitation. This happens after condensation.
