On Tuesday we opened our time travelling suitcase and found a picture of a boat and  some people, on the back it said ‘Property of Grace Darling. We decided to find out some more information so that we could help our time traveller William Gibson.

On the 7th September 1838 there was a ship which sailed from Hull to Dundee, the boat SS Forfarshire crashed into some rocks on a dark and stormy night.  A few escaped on a lifeboat, but most of them fell into the ice cold water. Almost all of the passengers and crew members that fell into the sea died, some of the crew made it to the rocks and clung on for dear life.Grace Darling saw them from her lighthouse and decided to help them with her father. Grace and her father rowed out to the rocks and William climbed out of the boat and pulled the men into their small rowing boat. They rowed back to the lighthouse and looked after them for 3 days until the storm had stopped.

Grace Darling became a heroine and even Queen Victoria found out about her. Grace sadly died 3 years later aged 26.
