Eid Week

Next week we will be learning all about Eid. We shall be looking at the Quran, and looking at the writing in it. Is it the same as ours? As a class, we shall be learning about Ibrahim’s wife, and linked to this story we shall be talking about water. What do we use it for? Why is it important? We shall also be listening and dancing to Asian music. If you are celebrating Eid next week, we hope you enjoy this very special celebration. Happy Eid!!!!

Bob the Builder Week

Next week we shall be focusing on the character Bob the Builder. He works with his friends to “get the job done.” How can you help your friends and family at home? We shall be talking about helping our friends in the classroom. We will also have the opportunity to build a house, label a building, build words, draw maps and create number lines in the construction areas. Can we fix it? Yes we can!

Thanks for FUDGE!

We would like to thank all the fathers/uncles/grandads/everyone who attended our FUDGE event today. The session started with the book: “Fix-it Duck” and then everybody had the opportunity to participate in fun activities, based on the book. We had a real dvd player to unscrew and fix, tool boxes to make, cars to build, tree houses to create, walls to build, shapes to hammer, tools to cut and stick, play dough to create tools with and we have been building using marble run, lego and other construction. What a great morning! It’s fun to read and work together!!!!

FUDGE Event

This is the Year of Reading at Bearwood Primary School. As part of our celebrations, this Friday (27th September 2013) we are holding a FUDGE event in Reception. All Fathers, Uncles, Dads and Grandads are invited to come and share a story with their child. This will then be followed by a fun activity for you and your child to complete together. We want to show children that it’s cool for men and boys to read together. We cannot wait to see you all there!!!

Phonics Session

Thank you to all parents who attended our Phonics Workshop. It was great to see you all there. Please continue to work with your child on the phonic sounds (letter sounds) and once they are confident with these, then please begin to blend simple words with them; f-a-n fan, h-a-t hat, p-u-t put etc. Your support is vital to your childs progress.

Phonics

Phonics are really important at our school.  They underpin children’s reading and writing in the early years.  Therefore, we expect all parents to fully support us with phonics at home.  This is a short video that explains what phonics are (the letter sounds) and how we use them to read phonetical words.  This shall be explained further at our phonics workshop next week.

Phonics Workshop

Our phonics workshop is next week.  It is vital that all parents attend.  It will give you the opportunity to watch a phonics lesson and we will also discuss how you can support your child at home.  The dates for these are as follows:

Class RA – Monday 23rd September 2013 – 9am

Class RH – Tuesday 24th September 2013 – 9am

See you there!!!!!

Keep in touch…

Don’t forget you can email the Reception team at any time.  We would love to have photo’s of your child’s achievements sent to us, or any general information/queries you could like to share with us.  Our email address is as follows:

receptionclasses@bearwood.sandwell.sch.uk

We can’t wait to hear from you and these snippets of information will also be used to show your child’s achievments outside of school (and therefore added to their Learning Journal).

Welcome to the new Reception family!

The children have made a fantastic start to their Reception year.  They have all settled in really well, and are getting used to their new school routines.  Thank you to all parents for ensuring your child has arrived at school on time every day, and for your support with their transition to Reception.  We know this is going to be a fun filled and exciting year, and we cannot wait to share it all with you.  Welcome to the Bearwood Reception Family!!!

Wedding Week

This week is “Wedding Week” in Reception.  The staff were really lovely as they arranged a wedding costume for Miss. Seery to wear all week.  The children are also planning their own wedding celebration.  We began by creating a spider diagram about what we would like at a wedding.  The children then decided to make their own wedding costumes, build their own cakes from construction, research weddings on the internet, create wedding decorations, make their own spider diagrams etc.  We have worked so hard!
