This week we have been learning about ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ as part of our Fun and Fantasy topic. We practised writing our letter sounds in porridge oats and reading and writing CVC words.

May your love grow…
This week has been “Love Week” in Reception. As part of our Valentines work, we wrote the name of the people we love on a heart. Then we all went over to Calthorpe Haven to place our hearts on our “Love Tree.” We recognise that our love grows bigger and stronger, just like the tree. We then sang a love song to all our friends in school.
Ruth Miskin Pronunciation
After attending the Inspire workshop, a few parents expressed the need for guidance on the pronunciation of the phonics letter sounds. Please watch the video and do not hesitate to contact any member of staff for any further support you may need.
Valentine’s Week
This week our focus has been Valentines Day. We have been talking about the people we love and how we can show people we care for them. All the children have worked as a team to make heart shaped cookies to share with their family, made bouquets of flowers for their Valentine, used ICT to draw heart shapes (which will then be used to create Valentines cards), drawn portraits of their love etc. Love is in the air, in Reception!
Snowman
Today reception went to the forest, we investigated the snow and used it to make a snowman called Sammy.
Chinese Dragon!
We looked at the Chinese New Year parade commenting on the different elaborate dragon outfits they wear. In PE we used the parachute and pretended to be the dragon experimenting with different ways of moving.
Chinese New Year
This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year looking at how Chinese people prepare and celebrate this annual event. We have made Chinese lanterns to symbolise the “Brightness of Spring” and given each other red envelopes with money to share ‘good luck’ for the coming year. We have also learnt about the 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac and retold the Chinese New Year story in small groups.
