Next week we shall be reading ‘The Little Red Riding Hood.’ Watch this video with your child discussing the sequence of events in the story, pausing it to talk about what they think might happen next. Challenge your child to think about descriptive words to describe the wolf. e.g mean, horrible, sneaky.

Outdoor Fun!

We have all had so much fun outside this week! We have been making kites to fly high in the sky, balancing on the bridge, writing shopping lists to go to ADSA, making patterns with the stickle bricks, reading stories with our friends and digging for creepy crawlies!

Next week we shall be learning about and celebrating St Patricks Day which is an Irish tradition based on the Patron Saint of Ireland. We will be looking at and discussing the Irish flag and think it would be great if you researched a flag that’s important to your family. Talk to your child about the colours and symbols that decorate the flag. They could also make your own flag to bring in and share with the class!

Gruffalo Music!

This week we have been focusing on the book “The Gruffalo.” We spoke about the different animals that are in the book; fox, mouse, owl and snake. We had to represent these animals using a range of instruments, beginning by experimenting with them. We then had to talk about why we thought the instrument represented our chosen animal, recognising how we could change or improve the sound.
One child used the tamborine to represent the Gruffalo, beating it slowly and loudly to show how “the Gruffalo stomps through the trees.”

The Gruffalo

Next week we shall be focusing on the text: “The Gruffalo.”  Watch this clip or read the book with your child.  Talk about the descriptive language used to describe The Gruffalo.  Children will be writing their own descriptions next week.

Making Porridge.

As part of our work on Goldilocks, we all had the opportunity to make and taste porridge.  In small groups, we discussed what ingredients we would need and took it in turns to pour porridge oats, milk and water in to a bowl.  We discussed how the oats changed as we heated them, and also about how we thought it tasted.  Some of us liked it, and other did not! In the afternoon, we even attempted to write instructions of how to make porridge.
