As part of our Science curriculum in Year 1 we learn about the seasons of the year. To help us to understand the changes to the trees and weather at this time of year we visited Calthorpe Haven to investigate for ourselves. We collected leaves that had fallen from the trees and discussed the shape, colour and texture of the leaves that we found. We also used some of the leaves to develop our Art skills.
After our visit to Twycross Zoo we used the animals we saw to help us with our artwork. We made models of our favourite animals using clay. We looked at different ways to shape and join the clay thinking about the colours we needed to complete our animals once the clay had dried.
The children have all had a fantastic day at Twycross Zoo today. We have had the opportunity to see lots of animals that we have been learning about in our topic Rumble in the Jungle and we will use this visit to help us with lots of artwork ideas over the next few weeks. Today we have enjoyed tasting different fruits from around the world and describing the different tastes and textures. Children also used their collage skills with their Sharing and Creative Powers independently to create large fruit pictures in small groups.
This week we have enjoyed sharing the story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in class. We have used the hall to act out the story, retold the story using actions, drawn pictures of the bear and used the story sack puppets to tell the story in small groups. Here are a few pictures us on our bear hunt.
We have been learning to travel safely in P.E using all of the space in the hall. Our P.E days are:

As part of our Rumble in the Jungle topic we will be visiting Twycross Zoo on Monday 28th September. Please return the consent and medical forms as soon as possible. If you have any questions then please just ask.
Our first topic in Year 1 is Rumble in the Jungle. Today the children listened to some animal stories and used their sorting skills to show what some of the animals look like, the things the animals eat, where they live and what they look like as babies. Children also used Education City games, made masks and used role play with the animal puppets independently.
After planting sunflower, tomato and pea seeds 2 weeks ago we have been watering them and watching them grow. Here are our some pictures of our growing so far.
