It’s not fair! By Ismaeel and Liam

Today we had a wicked day. We started a new topic called ‘It’s not fair’.We started of our lesson by doing a exhillerating starter activity. Mrs davaney kept us in suspence.

Fair Trade is when workers from 3rd world and other countries are allowed to sell there products at a rate that they can then afford to look after themselves and there families.

Mrs Devaney was the banker and all of us were workers.

One table had to sell sugar beat another table had to sell sugar cane and another table had to sell sweets. The sugar beat sellers had 3 pencils, 3 pairs of  scissors and 2 crayons. The sugar cane sellers had 1 pencil, 1 pair of scissors and 1 crayon. The sweet sellers had 4 pencils, 3 pairs of scissors and 3 crayons.

The suger beat sellers  has to sell a set of 5 and gets 1 pound.

The sugar cane sellers had to sell a set of 10 and gets 1 pound.

The sweet sellers had to sell a set of 5 and gets 20 pounds.

Do you think his is fair?

Vote now!

  1. NO! it is not fair because the sweet sellars are geting mor money then the rest and they only have to do 5 where as the sugar cane sellars had to do a set of 10 and only get a pound

  2. No. Because all the sweet group has to do is make 5 sweets and they get £20. and the sugar beet roup have to make 5 and they only get £1. and the sugar cane group have to make 10 sugar canes and they only get £1. So actually what should happen is that you should make 10 sugar canes for £20 and make 5 sugar beets for £5 and make 5 sweets for £1. this is now fair. 😎

  3. How did the activity we did in class link with the situation in the real world? Why did the sugar cane growers have to sell their goods so cheaply? ( Clue- it is to do with the something the British government does)

  4. Can you explain in a bit more detail about the activity?

Would anybody like to describe the second activity about the bananas and what you learned from it? Did any of the activities surprise you? Why?

  5. No it’s not fair because the people who are making the sweets are from a delveloped country and can afford money. But the people who are making the sugar canes and the sugar beets are from third world countries and can’t afford enough money.
