Our special visitors by Jaiden

Today we met a man who worked for the ground work charity. He was called Amit. He kindly brought in loads of seeds for us. Carefully we picked a seed and planted it and we can take it home.  I planted a runner bean because I don’t have any runner bean plants in my garden at home.  Planting the seeds was so much fun! We worked in a group of five to make a hanging basket.  I really enjoyed making the hanging basket and can’t wait until they are hung up. It will make the school look more attractive and pretty.

Then Matt from the ‘big spring clean’ came and he gave us all a litter picker, some gloves and a green jacket so we didn’t get mixed it up with the other kids and some children got a red litter bag. After we had finished we all got a certificate, a pencil and a pen! I enjoyed doing the litter pick because we were helping to tidy our local environment.

My letter from Sue Bentley by Anouska.

Today in topic I received my letter from Sue Bentley!  When I was opening my letter I was incredibly excited! In the letter there was a bookmark  and on it there is a kitten called Flame who is a tabby cat . The letter contains factual information about Sue Bentley.  I learnt that she loved reading ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’  as a child.  At the bottom of the letter it said ‘Lots of love from Sue Bentley’ and a heart which I think is cool!  I’m so pleased that I worked so hard on my letter to this author.  I hope my friends get a reply from their chosen authors too.

Today in topic we were being artists and used some special pencils.  Our aim was to explore different types of pencils. Did you achieve your aim today?  Firstly, we wrote the date and the aim then got the pencils.  Mrs Daniels showed us a picture of chickens then we drew chickens independently using different pencils.   Exploring the different types of pencils was fun because we saw light, dark and normal pencils.  It was challenging to draw the chicken’s body because it was straight, then a lump. Then we started to draw what we thought was in the mystery egg.  I thought it was a chick!  What do you think it can be?  My favorite part of this lesson was doing the pastel colouring because we were doing it with music in the back ground.  Whilst drawing we used different colours of get the effect for the chicken detail.  Do you like them?

Special Delivery for Year 3

This morning we had a special delivery! Our special delivery was a box marked fragile. We all wondered what was inside. Carefully, Mrs Daniels opened the box and inside was ……..eggs! Cautiously we examined the eggs, but they were not all the same size or colour. Some of the eggs are chicken eggs however the others remind a mystery. The eggs  are in an incubator  keeping warm.  What do you think will hatch from the mystery eggs?

Building a ‘Better Bearwood’.

In topic our “The View form our Window’ we decided to build a ‘Better Bearwood’.  Using our 3D shape knowledge and designed and build our building using nets.  Have a look at our photographs to show the building process. [slideshow]

Can you describe how you made your building? Can you write the instructions?

e.g 1. First, I created a tally chart to collect my data.

Wildlife Hunt at Thimble Mill Brook

We found lots of interesting things on our walk to Thimblemill Brook. There were woodlice, different birds, snails, beetles and we even saw some red spider eggs! We are going to carry on being nature spotters as we walk to and from school.

Let us know on the blog if you have seen any really interesting animals and plants when you are out and about!

Shadows!

To try to answer Spudnik’s questions we went outside into the playground on a sunny morning and drew round our shadows. We hope you like them Spudnik! We have now started to write an explanation of what shadows are. Look out for these on the blog soon…
