Get Talking, Get Learing

Literacy– You have now chosen your author! Now you need to find out as much as you can about them. Remember, in your letter you will want to ask lots of interesting questions for them to reply to. Can you be a curious learner and find out lots more about them. See how many of their books you can find and read!

Phonics– Make your own little library at home. Can you share a phonics book every day with somebody in your family? Challenge yourself to read and write all your red and green words.

Over the holidays make sure you read every day and record your reading in your blue journal.

Numeracy – Do you remember when we turned our classrooms into a Totally Top Toy Shop? After the holidays we will be turning it into a Post Office. What happens at a Post Office? What does a Post Office look like? What Mathematics is used in a Post Office? Find out as much as you can and make a fantastic poster, leaflet or booklet of all your ideas.

Over the holidays we challenge you to: use Mathletics, follow a recipe to cook something, use a measuring jug, find out the area and perimeter of three objects in your house and become a teacher and show somebody in your family how Year Three + , – , x and ÷ . Finally, use real money to pay for items and work out the change!

Our new topic will be ‘The View From Our Window’. What does the view from your window look like?
