Today  I have been learning about 2d shapes in Numeracy.  I learnt today that a Pentagon has 5 sides and a Hexagon has 6 sides.  I had to put lots of different shapes into the  baskets which had the shape names on them.  Then I had to draw around my shapes and write the name of the shape, and I even put how many sides that shape had.  I really enjoyed doing 2d shapes today.

Today in Plan-Do-Review I painted a witch. I really enjoyed painting. We have also been mixing paints today. We know that red and yellow makes orange and red and green makes brown.

Today in Plan-Do-Review I made some flowers. To make this I used some shiny cardboard, tissue paper, different colour paints and felt tips. I really enjoyed making these flowers today. I had so much fun!

Today in Plan-Do-Review I made a house and a garage.  I used lego to make this and I put play people inside and a car too.  I had so much fun today making this and I really enjoyed myself too!!

[slideshow]Today we have been celebrating the Royal Wedding by making flags, crowns, decorating dresses and suits. Some of the children have also dressed up as a Prince and Princess. Also some children had a Royal Tea Party.[slideshow]

1L have been working very hard with their topic ‘Once upon a time’. Last week the focus was about the story ‘Hansel and Gretel’. The children went over to Calthorpe Haven to visit the witch’s house, but luckily she wasn’t there! So the children searched around her garden looking for some ingredients to make a cake. They found loads of disgusting things such as frogs’ eyes and mouldy carrots.

Later in the week the children made some cakes with the ingredients from the witch’s garden. Yum! Yum!

Last week we found out that a witch was living at Calthorpe Haven! Being the brave year 1S that we are, we went looking for her and found all of her nasty cake ingredients hidden around her garden. We collected smelly socks and dinosaur eggs, wiggly worms and slimy slugs.
What disgusting ingredients! Who would want a cake made from such horrible things?

We thought that some colourful fairy cakes would be much better, so we did some baking later in the week. We made yellow, red, green and blue cakes. They were delicious. We are all fantastic bakers, our cakes were so much tastier than the witch’s cake could ever be!

Today in Plan, Do and Review the children chose a theme, ‘Bears’. They made a car and a house for the bears out of mobilo. They acted out the 3 bears story in the roleplay area. Mrs Sibley brought in 3 lovely teddy bears from the Bear Factory which the children loved playing with. Some of the children played Yogi Bear on the computer, while others made bear masks. Can you guess who they are? [slideshow]

Today we were the scientists!! and we had an experiment with coffee, sugar, tea and rocks. You will never guess what we noticed today. We found out that everything else dissolves apart from rock because it is solid. We also used torches and mirrors and found out that when we used the torch on the mirror it shone and also did a reflection. We had so much fun being scientists!!

Today in plan, do and review the children decided to make pasta salad. They used different ingredients including pasta, tomatoes, cucumber, yellow and green peppers, carrots, tomato sauce, cheese and red onion that made the chefs cry! When they had finished preparing and making the pasta salad they sat down with their friends and ate it.
Some of the children celebrated Chinese New Year by making animal masks.
