Next week we will be looking at the Scottish celebration of St Andrew’s day. Research this day with your child and make your own Scottish flag – ensure you bring it in to school for us to see!

Using clay, we have been making traditional Diva Lamps for Diwali.  We then decorated our Diva Lamps with paints and glitter.  We spoke about the fact that Rama and Sita were guided back to their village with small candles to lead the way.

We also created Diwali cards, to send to our loved one’s, and made our own masks to retell the story.

Our Diwali week started with a very energetic Bhangra dancing session.  We all really enjoyed ourselves; and attempted to move in time to the music.  Mrs. Kang then continued this work with us throughout our PE sessions.  We were all exhausted, but had a fantastic time!

As requested on the homework, this week we have asked you to investigate the story of Diwali. This short video might give you a clue, enjoy!

Next week we will be looking at rangoli patterns. Help your child by asking them to continue a 3 colour pattern at home. Can they tell you what colour comes next? Challenge your child to draw their own shape patterns e.g. triangle, square, circle, triangle, square, circle.

Next week we shall be looking at the story of ‘Rama and Sita’ and learning about Diwali and how people celebrate it. As part of the Diwali celebrations you could make a diva lamp with your child!

Last week we created firework pictures using a range of resources such as chalks, paint, glitter and crayons. We discussed different noises fireworks make e.g. “bang” “pop” “whizz” “boom” and made up our own firework dances in small groups. It was lots of fun!

Oxford Owl is a great online resource that has lots of books (for free!) that you can share with your child.  Read the stories together, and discuss the events with your child;

• What is the title?
• Who is the author?
• What happenned in the story?
• Can they point to the words/pictures?
• Who are the characters?
• How do the characters feel?

This conversation with your child is vital for them to fully understand a book, and will support them greatly as they move forward in their reading and writing.

This week we have been learning all about the celebration of Bonfire Night.  We learnt all about Guy Fawkes; a man who lived many years ago, who tried to kill the King!  Then, we completed lots of art activities based on Frieworks; using paint, glitter, chalks etc.  We ended the week by going to Calthorpe Haven to watch a small bonfire.  Miss Coleman discussed fire safety with us, and demonstrated how we build a bonfire.  As a whole class, we sang firework songs and rhymes and spoke about the words to describe fireworks – fizz, pop, pow, whizz, fizz, whoosh!

Next week we shall be learning all about Autumn.  What signs of Autumn can you see outside?  Collect objects together and bring them into school for us all to look at.  We look forward to seeing all your Autumn Objects!
