The Survival Challenge By Zuzanna

In 4D and 4P, our new topic is survival. To start us off Mrs Daniels set us a survival challenge , the challenge was to imagine to stay in the woods for one whole day.   First you had to make a shelter in your group ,which was really hard because everybody had there own ideas then still imagining we had to get that shelter done because the rain was coming!

How would you survive?

The Bag By Dawud and Vanita

Today 4P were about to start literacy and words started to appear on smart board it said “hello I have lost my bag.  Have you got it? Is it 1944? All of the computers turned off including the smart board and the light switched off and the door shut. We all wrote letters to find out who Joe is.

Who do you think he is and why?

Curiosity Questions

For our new topic ‘Survival’ Year 4 had many curios questions.  We had brilliant questions about human, animals and plants surviving but then in your groups you began to extend your thinking to objects surviving through history.

As a year group you have asked questions about WW2, The Titanic and how people and objects survived.  To begin your learning we asked you to look at mystery objects from the past and think about their purpose and whether they survived.

Can you describe the purpose of these objects?

Tiddiley Winks.

Today, in morning challenge, we played a game called tiddiley winks.  We used counters to play this exciting game.

We paired up and picked out two small counters and three larger counters.

Some of us played in twos and some played in trios.  Many of us loved playing this game but if you worked  in a three it was harder to win.   We played this on the carpet so then counters wouldn’t go flying in the air.

Did you like playing the fantastic tiddiley wink game?

Numeracy by Vanita and Navdeep

Today in maths we flipped a coin to see if it will land on tails 10 times or on heads for 10 times. This was called an even chance. Some people got  11 and 9. So we had a go and got to the extension. When we had finished we wrote our totals. We had to work with a partner in this activity. 4D and 4P both did this activity. Our aim was to investigate to find a chance of an event.   As an extension we either had to change our coin or see if the same thing happened again. Did you like this activity and why?

Try it again at home and see what you get.

The Survival Challenge

On Monday we gave you a note!

Dear Year 4,

Tomorrow we are going to imagine that you are spending a night in the forest.  You will need to bring a prepared bag to help you survive the night.

Think carefully about what you need to bring with you to survive.

What will you wear?

What do you actually need?

We had a fantastic time!  Using only the resources we had taken we had to survive!

This is what happened…

Do you think you were prepared for a real night out in the woods?

Breaking News! By Fozia, Rahim and Waqar.

Breaking news! On Friday 30th March we had exciting news we found out who`s objects they were. Apparently the objects were a neighbours who`s children used to go to this school. Their children were used to going to Calthorpe Haven and accidently put the mysterious objects there. The neighbour’s garden is right next to Calthorpe Haven. Mr. Crosswell the neighbour always looks at our blog. He saw the mysterious objects and realised that the objects were actually his. He has recently been in touch with our school and apologised for the misunderstanding and has requested his objects be returned to him. Year4 are extremely happy that the owner has turned up and that it was not a member of the school staff as first believed.

Investigating by Vanita and Yousuf

Year 4 have been testing the unusual items that they found at Calthorpe next to the pond. We tested if it was magnetic, water prooth, opaque, if it’s flexible, or if it can float or if it’s hard. We labelled them because we do not know what they are called.

After our testing what do you think they are called?
