Describing Settings

Using this amazing video we have been learning to ‘steal’ new words to describe a imaginary setting.  Today it was the boys who were showing off their amazing writing.

Pandora  is  a  mystical  magical  world.  Mountains   float like balloons in the air. Fierce creatures like the six legged dayo horse live in the tranquil rain forest.  Plants and humanoids glow like a rainbow glowing in the sky. Water waves like the wind whispering like the fluttering wings of a butterfly.

By Fabio, Bilal, Ali and Ms Clark

Pandora is a huge, dangerous place with scary creatures . It has beautiful, strange plant’s and tree’s . Blue creatures are fighting, screaming also people are watching down from the trees.

By  Jedaiah

Pandora is a tropical and interesting world, full with wild animals .The ferocious thythantor, the creepy banshee, the amazing hexapon also the terrifying viper wolves and the leonopterix .that’s just the animals. There are amazing forests with 9 to 10 feet tall na’vi there are other living organisms’. The tree of souls is worth a lot to the na’vy so it is top secret (classified).

Numeracy by Zeba

In numeracy we learnt about negative numbers also we did our times table challenge. We worked in groups to play a game about negative numbers. To play the game we needed a number line between -50  and +50.  We had to pick numbers and count or back.  Sometimes my number was a minus or a plus.  I liked this game because it was really good fun and I learnt about negative numbers and how to count on and back.

What did you think of the game?

Literacy

We have been learning how to describe settings because we are going to be inventing our own imaginary world.  This was our first attempt…

Frantically the gloomy wind spread around the carribean island. Bang! Boom! Crash! Suddenly the fascinating bombs exploded and the air was filled with smoke . The creaky boats slid in to the bomb surrounded shore! By Jada

Suddenly a fiery  bomb slashed the calm water.  Ferocious pirates raced against themselves across the bay.  Explosions hit the sky like eager fireworks.  People screamed as they ran and saw the sight of their village.   Pirates were heard giving out orders as they ran across the wooden ships.  Villagers ran from one side of the city to the other.  By Sian

Slowly, the ship came onto the sand… Boom! Bang! Crash! The Bombs swang into the sleepy peoples house. Splash! The water erupted .  The wind blew like a cheater. Neigh! Cried the horses.  By Shaynie

Rapidly, the wind howled across the dark, shadowy evening sky. The old, creepy boats were slowly going towards the land and ….. Boom! Crash! All of the people screamed with horror as they rushed into their houses !  By Simran

Sharing our learning by Vanita and Anouska.

Next week, parents evening is starting on the Thursday 26th and Tuesday 31st andyou will get to see your children/child’s presentation that they made themselves about their learning so far in Year 4. You will not believe that your child did their presentation as it will be outstanding.

What have you learnt so far this year? What have you enjoyed?

Measuring capacity.

In 4P this morning, we explored capacity by measuring in litres and milliletres using a range of equipment. It was tricky because sometimes the scales did not always increase by 1 and therefore we needed to check.

Year 4, what tips to do you have for others who are looking to measure and read scales accurately?

4P Goal Scorers.

Each week, we will be publishing the goal scorers and player of the match onto the blog to celebrate fantastic writing.

Will your work make it onto our blog?

Here are the goal scorers for this week:
I read my funny joke and it was: How does a polar bear get off of a leaf?

Answer: it makes until Autumn. Kiran.

I watched the movie while the soft, shimmering popcorn slid into my mouth. Mustafaa.

On Christmas day we made a scrumptious, heavenly dinner for the family to eat. Nabeel.

Excited, my mum opened her presents. Cashyila.

Congratulations!

Player of the match goes to… Danae. Danae’s work will be available to everybody who would like to see why it is so fantastic.

Well done and keep up the hard work!

Get Talking. Get Learning!

Literacy– Next week we are going to be studying Pandora from the film ‘Avatar’.  We are going to be focusing on the setting and you will be designing your own setting for your own fantasy or sci-fi story.  Think about what you would like your setting to look like.  Use Paint, Purple Mash or draw your setting ideas and put them into your GTGL book,

Phonics– Remember to read 10 minutes every day.  This week re write the story you are reading in your own words in your GTGL book.

Numeracy – Keep learning about decimal numbers.  Remember to practise ordering, rounding and adding decimal numbers. We have set you Mathletics homework to challenge your learning.   Next week we are going to be learning about capacity.  What is capacity? Why do we need to be able to measure?  Make a poster about capacity. Show what you already know.

Keep learning your times tables and practising how to tell the time.

You have been brilliant scientists this week and hope you have enjoyed your scientific investigation.

What did you learn about evaporation and condensation? In your GTGL books work with someone in your family to make a poster about evaporation and condensation.  If you get stuck get researching and see what you can find out.  Use diagrams to explain what each one means.

At home see if you can make at plan of your house or garden like the one you made with Mr Neill. Remember it’s a bird’s eye view so imagine looking down on your house. You could make your own map and clues for your family.

Remember you need your indoor and outdoor P.E kits.  Bring them into school on a Monday ready for the week.  4P remember you need your outdoor adventure kits every Wednesday.

You all need your library cards for a Friday Night.

Bring in your GTGL books on Tuesday to share with us.
