We are Chunky Monkeys! By Vanita and Yousuf

Today in numeracy we started to use the chunking method it was the first division method we learnt in year 4. It was quite hard but we got the hang of it. We did questions like the following ones. Could you do the following questions?

Keep practising in your new get talking get learning books. Try answering these questions in them as you get ticks and stickers for doing your homework.
If you do all of them and get them right you will get 3 ticks and a happy note and maybe the teacher will choose you for achievement award. (There are 2 trick questions can you spot them?)

  1. Those questions are very tricky! Use your persistence powers to achieve.

Do all of them divide into equal groups? What happens if they don’t?

    1. Hi Sabah, I am the new year 4 teacher. Year 4 have told me all about you. How have you found chunking? Are there any tips you could give to help us to make progress?

      1. part 1. Chose a question
part 2. get the first number from your sun and set it out like this:
        25

part 3. if the question is 25 X 5 then do a possible of the first number of the sum e.g. (3×5) so far you should have this in your book.

        25
        – (3×5)
part 4. Answer your question (3×5=?)
part 5. add your answer under the 25. so far you should have.

        25
        – 15 (3×5)
        ________

part 6. calculate 25-15 by using coloum method.
part 7. write it underneath the line. so far you have.

        25
        – 15 (3×5)
        _______
        10
part 8. your answer is 10 ask your self how many 5s you can take away from 10 (2)
part 9. the answer is 2 so 2×5. this is what it looks like

        25
        – 15
        _____
        10

        part 10. calculate 2×5 (10)
part 11. so 10-10 it looks like.

        25
        – 15 (3×5)
        _____
        10
        – 10 (2×5)
        ________
        0

last part!. inside the brackets take the 1st numbers so then 3+2=5

note. if under your last chunk the answer is not 0 it will be the remainder.
