The Honeymoon! By Harjun and Shannon

Today in numeracy we have been planning Miss Martindale’s honeymoon so that she is never bored on her trip. We had to plan every single activity from waking up until bedtime so she wouldn’t be bored at all. Some of the prices were £600 in total for the week! We all had great fun. The majority of the class wanted to go to Mexico too but have we will have to wait until we have a honeymoon I suppose! We had to use addition and also find time intervals . We have had to use a lot of maths whilst we are planning a wedding!

Creating Pandora settings using sumopaint by Sana

In Literacy today it was time to create pur imaginary worlds for our stories. First we used google to find pictures of wodds, jungles, trees and other places. Then we used the laptops and sumopaint.com to make the pictures look like Pandora. We changed the photos. You could make them brighter and change the colours so the pictures looked multicoloured and very peculiar!
Some peole added in aliens and monsters.
It was really fun and I am going to try sumopaint at home.
Now we are writing to describe our Pandpora. We will add the pictures and our writing to the blog later.

We had added our writing as comments below. Take a look!

Imaginary Worlds. By Zoe, Jai, Aarondeep and Joshan.

Literacy Last week year 4 started a topic about imaginary worlds. This week we have watched the start of Avatar. The story is about a Man called Jake Sulley whose brother has died and was sent on a mission to accomplish. Since his brother has died Jake has to do the mission. So Jake has to travel to Pandora which is a planet of the Trevienes. Jake has to transform into an Avatar (which are the fake Trevienes) with blue, stripy skin. The Avatar has a long blue tail with black furry hair, they are also very tall.
They were sent on the mission because the holy rock, which was in the home of the Trevienes. (Pandora). The Army Leader wanted to kill the Trevienes because they got the holy Rock which was worth a lot of money. They travelled down to Pandora. When he landed he saw a multi coloured sky, four armed, big blue eyed monkey creatures and a vast forest. After a while he started to explore suddenly he saw massive, purple flowers which disappeared when he touched them. Behind the flowers was a monster creature with a massive horn on his forehead. Jake also met a slimy, dark skinned, vicious creature that looked like a jaguar from the future. It had claws the size of a human hand and razor sharp teeth. If you want to know what happens next you need to watch Avatar.
We will be writing our own Avatar story. Be glued to the blog to find out more.
Created by Zoe, Jai, Aarondeep and Joshan.

For Writer’s Workshop we had to make our own imaginary story based on The lion the witch and the wardrobe. (Narnia) With Lucy or our own character. Can you try to make your own Imaginary Story?

Forest School

We had fun at Calthorpe Haven we played aki 123 Chethan was the last one to find and we played it again. This time I was the last one to find. We had a little run around. Miss Thomas kindly brought over biscuits and drinks for us to have a snack. Me and Miss Colmen went to explore about birds and different kinds of birds. This is what we did in forest school.

In year 4 we have been learning about electricity.

We had to build a crocodile out of Lego and then try to make it open its mouth by programming it by the computer. We also programmed traffic lights to make them start red then red and amber and then green. It was a bit tricky at first because we didn’t know what button made which colour, but after we figured them out.
Next we programmed the bee bots and we tried to make a shapes.

Here are top eight electricity facts that I have found:
1. Egypt had the first known battery. They used it to put gold plating on their jewellery.
2. The dynamo was the first generator. It was discovered in 1866 by Ernest Werner von Siemens who was German.
3. Crawfordsville’s electric light power makes 2omw of power per hour.
4. Benjaman Franklin didn’t discover electricity but he did prove that lightning is from electrical energy.
5. Thomas Edison didn’t invent the first light bulb but he did make one for a few seconds. Joseph swan a British inventor had the copyright for the first light bulb a year before Thomas Edison. Joseph swan showed the first carbon thread light bulb in England at least ten years before Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison’s light bulb copy of Joseph swans light bulb.
6. The first Van de Graaff generator was made in 1929 van de graaff who was a professor at Princeton.
7. Electricity can travel at the speed of a light which is about 186,282 miles per second.
8. An electric eel can make 350 to 550 volts of electricity. Eels use the shocks to protect them self’s.

Bridezilla strikes Bearwood! By Max and Shannon

Today in math’s Miss Martindale turned into a bridezilla and started demanding us to make hats and symmetrical flags exactly as she wanted them! If we didn’t do that Miss would get very fussy and start stomping her feet because it was the most important wedding of the year. It was really fun because it was like art but just it was numeracy and we learned about measuring and symmetry. Some of us also learned about transformations and translations. We also had to decorate the hats and flags miss made it very spacific like the jewels had to be exactly 2.4cm tall and there was lots more rules so it kept us busy and it was very fun .

In year 4 we have been making some flags and hats for Miss Martindale’s wedding. We have been very busy drawing, measuring and colouring. We had to measure our heads to find out the right size to make the hat. Then we had to draw symmetrical patterns on the hat. The shapes had to be specific sizes and 2.5cm apart. Most of us have finished and we have been taking lots of pictures to go on the blog. We are all very excited We hope Miss Martindale will have a good time.

The most important wedding of the year!

By Dalip and Kamal

Miss Martindale told us she needs help planning the most important wedding of the year. She told us it was her wedding! we brainstormed the maths that we would use to plan a wedding! Here are some examples: we would add different costs to see how much money you would need,we would need to multiply recipes to make sure we bought the right amount of ingredients, we would have to measure the men to order the correct size suit, we would have to figure out how long we would need the cars for and how much it would cost to hire. Also we need to understand time to know what time everybody needs to get to the diferent places and be able to add to get the total cost of the whole thing.

What a lot of maths! Miss Martindale definitely needs our help!
