What do you think?

This is Miss Martindale’s tricky question:

If I leave bottle of lemonade without the lid on and then re-weigh it after a couple of days will its mass have decreased since the start?? (In other words will the bottle of lemonade get lighter if I leave the lid off?)

What is your prediction? Can you explain WHY you think that?

We will find out later in the week.

Science Investigation

We have been finding out whether liquids change their capacity depending on the container they are in. We were also practicing our measuring and observation skills to so that we can be accurate in our investigations this year.

What poetry techniques do you know to create images?

Write some examples here if you can. Try to explain what each technique is and give an example. Try to use powerful images.

I will help you by reminding you of the names of some techniques but can you remember and explain what they are?

1) Personification

2) Similes

3) Rhyme

4) Onomatopoeia (even I had to check that spelling!).

Year 4 get sculpted!

[slideshow]

As part of our warm up for Writers Workshop we did a drama activity today called ‘Sculpture and Sculptor’. Children had to ‘sculpt’ their partner into a position to show how they were feeling after they opened a mysterious box and were whisked off into another land or time.

See some photos below. Can you describe how the children are feeling? What do you think they may have just seen?

We also did an activity called ‘ET phone home’ where we made a call on our mobiles to tell our parents all about the exhilarating experience.

Talk Homework- The mysterious box

Watch the clip below about the mysterious box. The first part is for teachers (You might find it boring) but if you watch from about 2 minutes 20 seconds you will see the story that we watched in school.

Discuss with somebody at home how your story will end. What happened when Elizabeth opened the box?

Where did she go?

What changed?

How did she get back home?

Also, discuss who could have been inside the box asking Elizabeth to open it?

Tomorrow you will write the story in Writers Workshop.
