Can't wait for next half term?

Thank you all for working so incredibly hard this half term. I think we have all enjoyed ourselves immensely and learned a great deal too!

When we come back to school after our break we will be starting a new topic in literacy on stories from other cultures.

Do you know any stories from a different culture? I would love to hear them here. Many of you have parents or grand-parents who grew up in a different culture. This is a wonderful chance to share stories from the diverse cultures that we have in school. Please ask your family members if they have a story that you could share with the class.

We will also be starting a topic on the World Cup. What would you like to learn in this topic? Which countries would you like to explore? Do you have some creative ideas for the direction that the topic could take? Here is your chance to share some ideas.

This is not just a chocolate cake…..This is a Bearwood Primary chocolate cake!

After watching television adverts and analysing them to identify the key features and techniques used, this week pupils have recorded their own Marks and Spencer style advert.

To make it more tricky some children had to think of alternative uses for unusual objects such as potatoes, bricks and shoes!

It has been a great opportunity to develop some descriptive language.

Can you spot the key persuasive advertising techniques in these clips?

Year 4 meet Cat Weatherill

This afternoon Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to meet Cat Weatherill, a published author.
Cat was an amazing speaker. She was funny and charasmatic so all children (and teachers!) enjoyed listening to her.
She shared a story with us that was about a boy from Africa. Also, she allowed us to ask any questions that we may have. A brilliant time was had by all.
Joshua asked what you need to do to become an author. One of Cat’s top tips is that you need to read lots and have a love of words. Remember this top tip as I think it is brilliant advice!

Could you sell ice to the Eskimos?

I want to see if your persuasive techniques are so good that you can convince the Eskimos to buy ice!

What is special about your ice? What ‘wow’ words will you use to describe it?
How will you tempt the Eskimos with your amazing description? (This is not just any ice……..This is extra cold, crispy ice which will instantly cool and refresh you!)

Can you ‘hook’ them in with a question? What exaggerated claims will you make? Will you offer a discount coupon or a sale on your product?

Can you tell the time?
