We have finished our journeys. Next week we will swap  our A1 sheets around and challenge each other to follow them.  Here is an example of one groups journey:

Let’s Investigate!

At present we are investigating  ‘What do seeds need to grow?’  We planned our investigation in  groups looking at soil, temperature, light and water.  Can you explain to an adult what your group is testing? As a class we discussed how to make the test fair. What do we mean by a fair test? Currently, we are observing what is happening.

Leaflets

In literacy we have been adding the finishing touches to our published leaflets. Next we will be attaching our leaflets to our habitats. Over the course of the next week we will be creating mini books. Have you selected an animal to create your mini book about?  Can you research some facts about your animal?

Get Talking, Get Learning

Literacy – Your leaflets are starting to come together and are  full of brilliant facts now. We have Monday to get it published so have your group got everything they need? What can you do this weekend to help your group achieve the goal of completing their leaflet?  Next week you are going to be creating your own mini non-fiction book about an animal in your habitat? Come prepared with your own animal and some facts about it!

Phonics – This weekend be the teacher!  Get your family reading your books but remember to check they are reading every work correctly?  I challenge you to read 5 books this weekend.

Numeracy – Great work on measures this week Year 3! This weekend see how many different measurements you can find around your home.  Next week we are going MENTAL!  That’s right crazy for maths.  We are going to be learning to challenge our brains and try to work out everything in our heads.  This weekend practise adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in your heads.  34+ 23     45 – 22   7 x 4    8 x 3   20 ÷ 4   24 ÷ 6

Next week we will showing what we learnt at Sandwell Valley Farm.  It was a fabulous day and we are proud of all your excellent answers and behaviour.  What was your favourite animal? What part of the garden amazed you the most? Answer these questions on the Year 3 Blog under the Sandwell Valley post.

We are going to be learning about food and where it comes from.  Can you bring in any food packets that shows where your food come from?

Beebot fun!

In ICT  this week we have been exploring how the Beebots work and how we programme them. After this children created a journey for the Beebot to be programmed to.

How can we make the Beebots come alive? What could we change or add?

Caterpillars

Look at the picture of the caterpillars.  The caterpillars  have entered the transformation stage of their life cycle. This means that the caterpillar tissue is getting  broken down ready for the wings  to start to form. The scientific name for this is chrysalis or pupa.  Soon, the caterpillars will need to leave the plastic tube and enter the butterfly garden. What do you think needs to go inside the butterfly garden to create a habitat?  What food do you think they need when they are in the butterfly garden?
