Diwali

thus week we have looked at the celebrations that happen for Diwali and have used used our Art skills with our Creative, Sharing and Persistence powers to create Rangoli patterns by colouring them and collating them using coloured rice, lentils and dhal. Here are some pictures of us working hard.

Remembrance

After buying poppies in school we used our History skills to find out about why people wear poppies and how they are made. We then used our Art skills to collage and draw poppy pictures. Some children also made their own remembrance crosses.

Jungle exhibition

The children enjoyed sharing their work with parents, showing them the different activities they have completed while learning about the jungle and the animals that live there. They then had lots of fun getting the parents  involved in different creative activities in the classroom.

Autumnal Art

After learning about the changes that happen to trees and leaves at this time of year we used the leaves we had collected to develop our Art skills. We used wax crayons to create leaf rubbings to help us to see the patterns on the leaves and also used paint to create leaf prints.

Science

As part of our Science curriculum in Year 1 we learn about the seasons of the year. To help us to understand the changes to the trees and weather at this time of year we visited Calthorpe Haven to investigate for ourselves. We collected leaves that had fallen from the trees and discussed the shape, colour and texture of the leaves that we found. We also used some of the leaves to develop our Art skills.

Clay models

After our visit to Twycross Zoo we used the animals we saw to help us with our artwork. We made models of our favourite animals using clay. We looked at different ways to shape and join the clay thinking about the colours we needed to complete our animals once the clay had dried.

Twycross Zoo

The children have all had a fantastic day at Twycross Zoo today. We have had the opportunity to see lots of animals that we have been learning about in our topic Rumble in the Jungle and we will use this visit to help us with lots of artwork ideas over the next few weeks. Here are some pictures of our day.

Fruit

Today we have enjoyed tasting different fruits from around the world and describing the different tastes and textures. Children also used their collage skills with their  Sharing and Creative Powers independently to create large fruit pictures in small groups.
